Budgeting for a Home

I’ve been away from A Path Together for a bit, but I am hard at work on a post about the planning stages of buying a home.

The last few weekends Sonia and I have been driving through East Bay neighborhoods trying to get an idea of where we would like to live.  Along with looking through the MLS listings - which I have been doing for months now - I have decided to put together a true budget for home ownership.  I’m not just talking mortgage, but things like property taxes, water, garbage, etc. that most renters do not have to deal with.

The budget I put together, and how Sonia and I decide if we can afford to purchase a home will be the topic of my next post.  I’m off to the east coast to visit my family, so I should have plenty of time on the plane to write.  Thanks for hanging in there!

it is very hard. We planned and planned and made budget after budget, but there are still more expenses then planned. I suggest you mark EVERYTHING UP 25% just to be safe. Then when you GET HIGHER BILLS then originally budgeted for you will be covered.

It’s good that you’re planning these things so thoroughly from the beginning. I can’t wait to read more.
